چکیده
Nonoperative and operative management for early onset scoliosis has changed significantly since the Harrington era 50 plus years ago. Surgeons learned quickly that a spine fusion in growing child can result short thorax development of thoracic insufficiency syndrome. Techniques were developed refined over subsequent decades to allow spinal growth, control chest wall deformity, limit pulmonary demise. This “growth-friendly” concept is modern-day approach scoliosis. In this article, we review history growth-friendly instrumentation following present authors preferred techniques both growth guidance posterior distraction-based

Growing rod instrumentation in the treatment of early onset scoliosis.
The goal of the treatment of early onset scoliosis (EOS) is correction of the deformity while still allowing for spinal growth. The aim of this study was to determine the safety and effectiveness of the single and dual growing rod techniques and which technique was the most effective in the management of EOS respectively. From 2003 to 2009, 23 patients underwent single (15) or dual (8) growing ...
متن کاملThe effect of distraction-based growth-friendly spinal instrumentation on growth in early-onset scoliosis.
The present study assessed the advantages and disadvantages of growth-friendly spinal instrumentation surgery for early-onset scoliosis in 17 patients who underwent this surgery with a minimum 2-year follow-up. The mean number of lengthening procedures was three, initial age at which surgery was performed was 108.1 ± 30.2 months, and follow-up duration was 40.6 ± 16.6 months. Spinal height (T1-...

Early Onset Scoliosis (EOS) may be associated with long-term pulmonary morbidity, which is not commonly seen in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. Initial evaluation is based on determining any underlying etiology related to congenital or syndromic conditions. Assessing the impact of scoliosis on thoracic development may help guide treatment, which is often required at a young age in these childr...

Early-onset scoliosis is defined as scoliosis diagnosed at the age of five years or less (Fig. 1).1 These patients may have congenital spine malformations and thoracic malformations, such as fused or absent ribs, but they may also have normal vertebral formation. Early-onset scoliosis is uncommon. The incidence of idiopathic scoliosis has been reported to be 1.5% and infantile scoliosis represe...
